Your Benefits at Work: Commit to Quit Today!

Wellness

If you’re ready to join nearly 20 million Americans this month by committing to quit smoking, then it’s important to get some help. Here are a few ways to help start you on a successful path to a tobacco-free life:

Talk with Your Doctor

You may want to start by having a conversation with your doctor. Since your doctor knows your current health status best, they can make the most informed recommendation on how to safely help you quit. Your doctor may even prescribe a medication to ease your path to a tobacco-free life. Some smoking cessation medications and therapies are considered preventative and free under medical insurance. Be sure to ask your doctor if you qualify.

Quit for Life

The American Cancer Society offers the Quit for Life Program, which includes tools and resources to get you started and keep you motivated. The program includes a quit coach who can help you create a personal quit plan, a web portal, access to tobacco cessation medications, and a smartphone app to provide ongoing support. Plus, access to the program is covered under the UHC health plan. Visit the Quit for Life website to get started.

Rally

If you’re not ready to fully quit, you can still take small steps forward by reducing your tobacco consumption. UHC Rally can help you challenge and motivate yourself to begin. Just visit Rally and set a Rally mission to delay your next smoke. By stretching the time between tobacco use, you’ll start to build your tobacco-resistance muscle. Then, when you are ready to quit, it won’t be as hard.
