Bust a Move and Boost Your Health
Wellness
April also happens to be the American Heart Association's "Move More Month" to motivate and encourage people to incorporate more movement and less sitting into their days, enhancing both physical and mental health. They also offer on-demand videos of varying lengths on their website so you can easily fit some movement (and meditation) into your day on breaks, over your lunch hour, or before or after work.
To underscore how easy it can be and how quickly even simple actions can add up, consider these examples:
- Vacuuming for 20 minutes is equivalent to walking a mile.
- Instead of getting groceries delivered or using curbside pickup, shopping for just 30 minutes every other week over the course of a year is like walking a marathon.
- Just 10 minutes of stretching? That’s like walking the length of a football field.
- Like dancing? Just 1 hour every week is like walking from Chicago to Indianapolis.
- Work 5 hours of walking into your week and after a year you’ll have the equivalent of walking across Wyoming.
- If tennis is your game, playing just 30 minutes is the equivalent of walking a 5k.
Spring weather also accommodates outdoor activities that can get the entire family moving. If the booming pickleball movement intrigues you, now is a good time to give it a try! Or, fall back onto some classics like flag football, horseshoes, corn hole – or get the Twister mat outside for added fun without it feeling like exercise.
Remember to take advantage of your annual exams included in your Transocean health benefits, including biometrics screening and assessments. You and your physician may be pleasantly surprised at how much a little extra movement every day for a year can show some real results.
With the weather starting to improve, get in on this month’s awareness celebration and get a move on!
