Easy At-Home Workouts & Self Care
When most of the world is staying at home to stay safe, it’s easy to let go of all routine and relax – maybe curl up on the sofa and binge-watch a Netflix series or three. But staying at home doesn’t mean you can’t stay fit or that you can’t take care of your mental wellbeing.
We’ve got some simple tips to build a few small routines to help keep you physically and mentally on your game. Then, when it’s time to go back to the new normal, you’ve grown some home fitness skills to last a lifetime.
Here are a few easy ways to get or stay fit from home:
1. Start with Baby Steps
Take a few baby steps — or lots of them —by walking. Find ways to get about 10,000 steps a day or 150 minutes a week. If you break that down, all you need to do is walk 21 minutes a day. That’s just two to three minutes each hour in your eight-hour day. Set a timer every hour to stop sitting and start walking. Then get moving around your apartment, up and down the stairs in your home, or around the neighborhood. And, don’t forget to track those steps to earn Rally rewards.
2. Stretch Goals
The Mayo Clinic says you should stretch at least two to three times per week and hold each stretch at least 30 to 60 seconds. If you’re not sure what or how to stretch, maybe it’s time to give yoga a try. A simple yoga routine will help you focus on specific areas and walk you safely through a series of gentle movements for flexibility. Plus, yoga breathing techniques can also help with reducing stress, which we can all use right now. You can even participate in a Rally challenge to up your yoga game.
Getting started with yoga is as easy as searching “Yoga Free” on the smartphone app store. There are lots of great options you can download at no cost to get started. You may need to try a few different apps to find a teacher and technique that’s right for you.
3. Meditation Moments
Contrary to what some people think, meditation isn’t always a spiritual, mystical experience. It’s a simple tool to give your brain a break from the constant barrage of media, technology, and stress. You can try meditation just a few minutes a day on your own. Or try guided meditation journeys found in the Sanvello app. They're available at no cost to you through your Transocean. Plus, it offers a suite of other stress-relieving tools and techniques if meditation isn’t right for you.
